Sitatapattra
One Thousand Arms, One Thousand Heads
Painting: #840
Size : 22¼ by 15¼ inches
Price : $200.00

Painting in gold and silver on a black background is an old Tibetan tradition... This painting has a huge amount of detail and is expertly executed. The painting's number (t-840) indicates that I purchased it in Kathmandu, in the late 1990's.

Ushnisha Sitatapattra (Dukar) is the "Goddess of the White Parasol" is a form of the White Tara. She is depicted standing, with one thousand arms and legs, one thousand heads. Her parasol represents her ablity to protect followers. She is quite popular with the Geluk order.
